From July 27 to August 1, 2025, Jay Nolan Summer Camp brought together a diverse group of campers—some returning, many new—for a week of connection, growth, and unforgettable memories.
This exciting summer session marked our 2nd cohort since opening our doors after a 10 year hiatus. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we were able to provide full and partial scholarships to over 30 campers to give more kids the opportunity to experience the great outdoors. For many, this was their first time spending a week out in nature. For all our campers, neurodiverse and neurotypical, getting the opportunity to explore nature, build friendships, and participate in camp traditions was a powerful and transformative experience.
Throughout the week, campers engaged in a variety of activities designed to foster confidence, teamwork, and fun. Archery and rock climbing challenged them to push past their comfort zones. Kids took turns learning to use bows and arrows to hit their targets and to climb to the top of the climbing wall, all while being cheered on by their supportive camp mates. In the hot California summer weather, swimming offered a refreshing way to cool off and connect with peers.
One of the most anticipated events was the talent show, where campers collaborated to create and perform skits that showcased their creativity and humor. A special shout out goes to our phenomenal theater coordinator, whose enthusiasm, energy and encouragement helped every camper shine on stage. We want extend our deepest gratitude to all of our activity coordinators who made every morning and afternoon fun, rewarding, and safe for every kid.
What made this session truly special was the inclusive environment. Campers of all abilities shared cabins, meals, and adventures—forming friendships that celebrated differences and built understanding. The camp’s commitment to inclusion ensured that every child felt valued, supported, and empowered to be themselves.
We were thrilled to welcome back several campers who had attended last year. Their enthusiasm and familiarity helped set the tone for a welcoming and spirited week. At the same time, we embraced many new faces who quickly became part of the Jay Nolan family. Watching these connections form and grow was one of the most rewarding aspects of camp.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to our dedicated counselors and activity coordinators, whose compassion, leadership, and enthusiasm made this week possible. Their tireless efforts created a safe, joyful, and enriching space for every camper. Whether rounding up kids for mealtimes, leading a craft, or cheering on a skit, their presence was the heartbeat of camp.
As we reflect on this summer, we’re reminded that camp is more than just a place—it’s a feeling of belonging, discovery, and joy. And thanks to our community of supporters, that feeling reached even more children this year. We’re already looking forward to next summer and the new memories we’ll create together.
